The Story

Blood Oath is Lux Row's annual limited release — each "Pact" blends three different bourbons, at least one of which is finished in a unique secondary cask. The concept is straightforward: take quality Kentucky straight bourbon, give it an interesting finishing treatment, and release a new variation each year. It's become a reliable calendar marker for bourbon enthusiasts, and the packaging alone turns heads on a shelf. Each release tells a slightly different story through the finish.

Nose, Palate & Finish

Nose

The finishing cask announces itself immediately — notes of dried dark fruit, a hint of wine or spirit influence depending on the release, and underneath it all the familiar Kentucky bourbon backbone of caramel, vanilla, and a touch of toasted grain. Approachable but not simple.

Palate

Medium-full body with a sweet, fruit-forward entry. The secondary cask influence plays nicely against the underlying bourbon sweetness — you get brown sugar, dried cherry, and a pleasant oak grip in the middle. The blend works: no single element dominates, and the transitions between flavors are smooth.

Finish

Medium length, warm, and slightly tannic from the finishing cask. The fruit notes linger longer than the sweetness, which gives the finish a dry, sophisticated feel. Fades gracefully.

The Verdict

Blood Oath occupies a reliable middle ground: it's not a unicorn, but it's not ordinary either. The annual release format keeps things interesting, and the finishing concept genuinely adds something rather than just being a marketing play. Worth picking up when you see it — just don't overpay on the secondary market.
