The Story
Weller Antique 107 is the sleeper hit of the Weller lineup. At 107 proof it has significantly more presence than the Special Reserve, and the extra heat unlocks a complexity that makes it genuinely interesting to drink. It's widely considered the best value in the lineup — better than the 12-year at its price, and a capable stand-in for significantly more expensive wheated bourbons. The proof here does the work that extra age does in some other expressions.
Nose, Palate & Finish
Nose
Warm and inviting — the higher proof pushes the caramel, honey, and vanilla notes forward with a confidence the lower-proof expressions can't match. There's a dried fruit quality and a hint of toasted grain that makes it more interesting on the nose than the Special Reserve.
Palate
Full and coating. The wheat softness is present but the 107 proof gives it a weight and presence that transforms the experience. Brown sugar, butterscotch, dried apricot, and a warming spice that's surprisingly balanced. This is a bourbon that tastes more expensive than it is.
Finish
Medium-long and warm. The sweetness carries well into the finish with lingering vanilla and a gentle oak dryness. Better length than the Special Reserve and more rewarding to sit with.
